2010 Helen Woodward Surf Dog Surf-A-Thon Photos & Video!

5th Annual Helen Woodward Surf Dog Surf-A-Thon 2010

This past weekend was the 5th Annual Surf Dog Surf-A-Thon 2010 Fundraiser Benefit at North Beach (a.k.a. Dog Beach) in Del Mar, CA! Dogs of all sizes, shapes, and breeds battled the surf to raise money for the Helen Woodward Animal Center, and brought in over $93,000, with Surf Dog Ricochet coming in First Place as the Top Fundraiser, and 2nd Place in the Large Dog Heat! Congratulations, Ricochet! You did it again!

The event’s main goal is bring about awareness and raise funds for orphaned pets, while promoting responsible pet ownership. We love events such as this, and with such a great cause!

Although Ricochet took First as the Top Fundraiser, another dog named Abbie (and came in 3rd Top Fundraiser last year) stole the show, and caused a huge upset when she took First Place overall with her awesome Surfing moves! No body gets in Abbie’s way while she’s surfing because she’ll just take ya out!

Patriot Day Salute!

Yesterday was Patriot Day, and to honor those who lost their lives on 9/11 and those who have fought to keep our country safe, I wanted to do a little post to show my gratitude, and say ‘Thank You’ for everything you’ve done for Bubbs and I. We are so thankful to have the freedom to do and say what we wish on our blog and in our personal and daily life. I’d like to share with you my military family, active members who do their part to keep my freedom alive.

Thanks, guys! Bubbs & I love you, miss you, and hope everything is going well! We salute you!

This is my soon-to-be Sister-in-Law Kelly, her husband Scott, and their lovable lab/border collie, Bear (Not pictured: Bella the Cat). They just recently moved to Oklahoma so Scott could finish his Officer training and begin his military career in the U.S. Army. I miss them dearly and wish we could live closer to each other!

And, this is my cousin Mark, his wife Monica, and Ollie and Sadie the Weinas (Not pictured: Abbie, their beautiful daughter). I’ve never had the pleasure of meeting Monica or these two gorgeous dogs in person, but I follow her blog, Adventures of M-Squared, and never miss a post. They currently reside in Italy where Mark is in the U.S. Air Force and is gone for weeks and months at a time. Monica is a stay-at-home-mom to their daughter Abbie and all the fur-kids. She’s an amazing mom, and her blog is full of amazing photos of their life thus far!

These two families are Active military who are very close to my heart, and I wanted to share them with you because I came across a little video the other day that inspired me to write this post. This video immediately made me think of Scott & Kelly, and Mark & Monica, and their dogs. It also brought me to tears as I watched. I was happy, sad, and filled with emotions as I thought of how this happens in their lives, but also everyday all over the country at the homes of all military families with canines.

This little video pulls at my heartstrings…

These weeks are flying by, the Summer has flown by, the leaves are beginning to fall, and we can feel a chill in the air at night. We LOVE it!

I can’t believe we’ve never seen or heard about this amazing, talented dog before!

Ricochet is one of the best surfing dogs in the San Diego area, and also the #1 fundraising dog with over $25,000 raised for charitable causes! We’ll be keeping an eye on this beautiful dog, and be adding a link to Surfing Dog Ricochet’s website!

It’s funny I should come across this NOW, right after I filled up Bubbs’ bowl of food, and NOW I’m typing on my keyboard. Anyone have any Lysol to share? I’m thinking it’s time to switch over to Sojos or Proportions. We have some Proportions on the way, and we couldn’t be more thrilled about that right now.

I had no IDEA they SPRAYED ON FLAVORING.

*sigh*

When will dog food companies get it straight, this is NOT what pet owners want for their pets anymore! Times have changed, and pets are no longer PETS, they are FAMILY MEMBERS and no wonder we have an overweight pet population. I feel safer offering him what’s on MY plate, then filling up his bowl with Lord knows what. If it’s safe for me, it’s safe for him, right?

Best Friends: A Dog And His Deer, A Video

Welcome to this Friday’s edition of Funny Furry Friday, featuring the premiere of: A Dog & His Deer.

It makes me want to leap for joy!

The deer, named Theen, was cared for by mlcarriker’s family after he was discovered alone and malnourished. The family bottle-fed Theen until he began to eat on his own, and although he’s now free to wander and mingle with his wild brethren, he “frequently comes back to the house to eat some [cat food] and play with our dog, Buddy,” mlcarriker explains. “He doesn’t care much for deer corn.” [via L.A.
