The ‘Let me out or the cat gets it’ Face.

It’s been awhile since we’ve tried out a new shampoo, and we’ve been dying to try that Pet Head™ stuff by TiGi®.  So Bubbs and I headed to Petsmart, without any knowledge of what was in store for him, his excitement radiated the entire two minutes it took us to get there.  We browsed the toys, treats, stopped to sniff where a potential little lady had been (or an intruder of course), and then hit the grooming aisle.  And of course this is all happening as they had immediately opened their doors at 9am.  No other dogs were present.  Otherwise there would have been no browsing, nor sniffing.  Only death stares, barks, and raised hackles.  Anyone know Cesar Milan’s cell #?

Anywho, we picked up a bottle of Pet Head™, grabbed a treat from the treat jar, and exited conflict free. Whoopee! Although, I’m sure Bubbs was slightly disappointed he didn’t have any run ins with those crazy canine criminals that are just begging to be bit with a Barking and Entering charge.  :)

We got home, took a walk around the building, stopped at the mailbox to see if any new goodies had arrived, and then headed back inside, shampoo and all.  Bubbs is still clueless as to the adventure he’s about to embark on.  Being a dog owner, as most of you know, and once you’ve been one for awhile, you quickly learn how important it is to act nonchalantly when planning to give your dog a bath.  At least, for those that dislike it.  All it took was one slow-quick shut of the bathroom door, for him to know it was all over and that he had no chance.  He knew as soon as that door shut…“Crap!  Maybe if I scratch at the door she’ll let me out!  Maybe this was all just an accident! *Scratch Scratch Scratch*  [Pleading hopeful eyes]  Crap.”

I started the water.

He’s sitting at the door still hoping for a chance to escape.

“My poor Moomies (his other nickname).  Mommy loves you and that’s why you need a bath!  You stink!”

I make sure the water is at a safe temperature, head to the door to gently but firmly pick him up, and let the wonderful festivities begin.  If you call them festivities!  Bathing a dog with one hand and trying to keep him in with the other is pretty difficult, but I’ve done it for years and can safely say I’m a Pro One-Handed Dog Bather.

“Please, Mommy??”

Once all the rinsing is done, he knows what time it is…time to get out, let mommy dry me off with one of those cloth things from which I try to escape, run around house frantically, jump on mom’s bed semi-wet and try to rub my clean smell out, jump down, see kitty brother, chase him, run downstairs, jump on couch and try to rub my clean smell out, see mom come after me with towel, take off back upstairs and jump on bed, roll around till mom tells me to get down, shake off, and then expect treat.

‘The expectant fresh ‘n clean Bubbs’

Yes, he keeps us on our toes when it comes to bath time, but when it’s all over I can tell he feels fresh, clean, and revived (read above) just as we do.  When I was little I hated to take baths, but once I was in I was hard to get out.  I suppose Bubbs just gets it from his mommy!

The Pet Head™ product line includes 10 varieties of shampoos, conditions, creme rinses, and sprays to fit your every grooming need, and every bottle smells uber yummy too!  We used No More Ruff – Skin Soothing Shampoo by Pet Head™ on Bubbs and it really left him smelling fantastically Plum Berryish!  Since he is prone to getting dry/flaky skin after bath time, I was worried he was going to be shedding his exoskeleton for the next few weeks, believe me…I was ready.  Surprisingly, he never got flaky or itchy after using the Pet Head™!  The Skin Soothing formula was perfect for his sensitive skin!

No More Ruff – Skin Soothing Shampoo by Pet Head™ is designed to relieve skin irritations caused by dry skin (classic BUBBS), contains no harsh chemicals, coal tar, or drugs!  Instead, the formula uses oatmeal and aloe vera to soothe the skin, tea tree oil to help purify, fortify and moisturize hair follicles, and wheat protein, vitamins, and chamomile extract to nourish the skin and leave the coat silky and conditioned.  All of these thing in one brightly colored bottle, featuring a cute little bone-shaped lid (so you don’t get your Bed Head® products confused with your Pet Head™ products of course) is the perfect combination for dogs with mild skin allergies (flea bites and other bug bites), or sensitive skin dogs prone to flaking and dryness like Bubbs.

When deciding on shampoo, its tough I know.  You really never know how well its going to work until you’re actually using it, right?  Well, another thing we always look for dog shampoos (outside of the packaging, ingredients, and scent) is the lather and rinse capability.  How thick is that lather going to be?  And once I have a lather, how well is it going to rinse out?  I’ve used shampoos in the past that gave me GREAT lather, but then I’d spend 15 minutes attempting to rinse out all the suds, and after 15 minutes of rinsing out a dog attempting to get out of the tub with one hand, and trying to rinse with the other is plain exhausting and not fun for either of us.  And if I didn’t get out all of the suds he’d end up with dry, itchy, flaky skin, and even sometimes with sores from scratching so much.  It was awful as  you can imagine!  The Pet Head™ shampoo was a little lack on the lather and was hard to get it to break the surface of his fur for a nice deep clean.  However, the rinsability was FUR-tastic!  I had to spend a little more time (not much though, maybe 2 minutes or so) working the shampoo into his fur, but when it cane time to rinse…it was a cinch!

Based on our own personal experiences with dog shampoos, we came up with 5 characteristics to review Pet Head and any other shampoos we may come across or asked to review.

My dogs love to dig in the dirt UNDER the dog house to cool off… that must be the nastiest dirt EVER! Stinky and musty! Please, save my nose!

    20. Kenzie needs Bed Head because he has a particularly stinky face. He had distemper as a puppy and now he twitches all the time and his eyes always tear which makes his face really smelly. He could really use some new shampoo!

just was reading on FB that we can tweet once a day :) so here is my daily tweet http://twitter.com/cdmtx65/status/22849632454

    22. Coco Puffs is my fuzzy nut! She goes outside to do her thing but ends up in the dirt. She is white, fluffy and puffy and her fur gets into tangles, knots and very very muddy. She chases the bugs in the bushes so I think that is why she keeps harming her fur. She gets at least 3 baths a week because of this and I’d love for her to try some REAL pet stuff… not just baby shampoo!

    23. Just below our house is a feed mill. Our yard slopes down to it. They have constantly had problems after rain with a sewage smell at the bottom of that slope. Normally my dogs are inside dogs but when they go out to potty, they head straight for the sewage smell, returning smelling as if they rolled around in raw sewage. I would definitely say this would smell better than raw sewage! Thanks for the giveaway!

    24. I “like” you on facebook now!

Surya is always getting into the lake next to our house and then rolls on the ground until she’s all black with green grass stains. I have to wash her off at least 3 times a week. She’s such a trouble maker, but we love her like nothing else!!!
