A TRUE Survivor: Sophie Tucker

I’m a little late on my reporting, but I thought late or not Miss Sophie Tucker (named after the famous entertainer) is worthy of a post nonetheless! When an Australian Cattle Dog was found and thought to be wild on a deserted island off the coast of Australia, she turned out to be the companion of a family who claimed she fell overboard during choppy waters (and shark-infested!) four months ago, but was never found. Her story is an incredible tale of survival!
After swimming approximately five nautical miles, she ended up on St. Bee’s island where she survived for four months on a diet of baby goats. When rangers picked up the dog she appeared wild and vicious, but when the owner’s heard about a dog being found that fit her description they had to be sure, and went to take a look. To their surprise, it was their Sophie! She immediately recognized her owners, and is now living comfortably at home with air conditioning.
Canines never cease to amaze me.
